With the rise in cyberattacks and third-party attempts to defraud Canadian taxpayers, the Canada Revenue Agency (CRA) is emphasizing the importance of individual taxpayers creating and utilizing their own CRA My Account. This secure online portal allows taxpayers to manage their own tax information, access important documents, and correspond directly with the CRA.
The CRA is strongly encouraging all individuals to set up a CRA My Account to safeguard their information and ensure secure communications.
How to Setup your CRA My Account:
Visit the CRA Website: Go to the official CRA website at Canada.ca and click on “Sign in to a CRA account.”
- Choose “CRA Register”: Select “CRA My Account for Individuals” and then click on “CRA Register.”
- Provide Your Information: Enter your Social Insurance Number (SIN), postal code, date of birth, and any requested information from your most recent tax return.
- Create Login Credentials: Set up a unique CRA user ID and password, and choose security questions for added protection.
- Wait for Your Security Code: A security code will be mailed to you. Once received, log in to your account and enter the code to gain full access.

However, we’d like to take this opportunity to remind you of the importance of maintaining proper password security and following best practices. Consider regularly updating your password, enabling security alerts, and avoiding the reuse of passwords across multiple accounts. Please note that the CRA will not make collection calls via email or send text messages.
Additionally, CRA My Account allows you to manage your tax refund conveniently. Through this portal, you can set up or update your direct deposit information to ensure your refunds are deposited directly into your preferred bank account.
