Stephen Altbaum currently acts as Senior Consultant and advisor to the firm and its clients, and was one of the founders of Lipton LLP in 1976. His number one priority in his many years of professional practice has always been a strong commitment to deliver the best quality service to his clients and to do so on a tailor-made basis based on each client’s specific and unique circumstances.
Steve obtained his Chartered Accountant (CA) designation in 1974 and his Trust and Estates Practitioner (TEP) designation in 1999. In 2020 he was awarded his FCPA, the highest designation a practitioner can receive. His areas of specialty include shareholder/partnership matters (structures, agreements, disputes, etc.), estate planning services (including intergenerational transfers of family businesses), and not-for-profit governance. For many years he was actively involved in the firm’s international association having been Chair of the Region of the Americas and serving on the International Executive.
Steve has been active in numerous charities including the United Jewish Appeal of Greater Toronto, the March of the Living, and Youthdale Treatment Centres Foundation. He is currently the Treasurer of Israel Cancer Research Fund and Camp Winston, a camp for neurologically challenged youngsters. He has also coached youth baseball and hockey.
Steve is also an avid canoe tripper (having done more than 40 trips all across Canada) and golfer (from 2015 to 2017 he was the President of Oakdale Golf and Country Club in Toronto).
